11:00AM LSI Logic shares jump on IPO plan (LSI) by Steve Gelsi
NEW YORK (CBS.MW) -- Shares of LSI Logic (LSI) are up 5 percent to $7.90 after the tech firm set plans to spin off its storage systems business in a possible initial public offering next year. The move will allow each operation to focus exclusively on its key product lines. LSI Logic's storage business rang up $104 million in revenue in the third quarter, or 23 percent of the company's total sales. LSI's board OK'd the spin-off. The company is weighing an IPO in the first half of 2004. LSI may distribute shares of the storage systems business in a tax-free transaction to its shareholders, or it may sell part of the company in an IPO.
