If peace is the goal then the current military campaign seems doomed to fail. Even most of the Israeli Right would agree with you here...they would just answer that they are fighting a war of no choice. Whenever the Arabs get it into their heads that they don't have to make compromises necessary for peace, they can just aim for total victory over Israel (and Arafat has done this, and shown he can take most of the Palestinians with him), then the Israelis have no choice but to show that this campaign is doomed before they can even talk peace. That means fighting.
