In the Socratic view each individual is his own center, and the entire world centers in him, because his knowledge is a knowledge of God; for the Truth in which I rest was within me, according to Socrates, and came to light through myself (read the "Meno"), and not even Socrates or Jesus could have given it to me, as little as the driver can pull the load for the horses, though he may help them by applying the lash.

Yes, technically, you are correct, the quote, "man is the measure of all things", comes from Protagoras. But the origin of secular humanism and the great alternative to the teachings of Jesus comes from Socrates.

I'm sure you don't want me to enlighten you any longer. ggg

However, I must inform you that while no human being was ever truly an authority for another, or ever helped anyone by posing as such, or was ever able to take his client with him in truth, there is another sort of success that may by such methods be won; for it has never yet been known to fail that one clown, when he goes astray, takes several others with him.

<The powers that be certainly can stop gold. It could be made illegal to own and confiscated overnight. How do I know? Because it already happened. Roosevelt did it. The Kennedy administration even made it a crime for United States citizens to own gold outside the U.S.>

Whether he is aware of it or not, President Bush is the Best Friend the Gold Market ever had. The last US President who was extremely friendly to the Gold Market was President Jimmy Carter. And I'm sure you remember how well Gold did during that time period.

I have already confronted the ultimatum between owning Gold or maintaining my US Citizenship and I have already chosen owning Gold. I have already positioned myself accordingly in respect to that decision. So, whatever President Bush or the US Government may decide is irrelevant to me.

PS Sorry for the delay in responding, but I do have many other duties here in Tel Aviv outside of responding to posts on SI.

"The powers that be certainly can" NOT "stop" me from owning "gold". In contrast to you, I'm Free. HoHoHo.

Like Socrates, I will choose my own Death.
