It's almost a cultish following.

"Almost" doesn't cut it. People are bananas over it. They have dinners on sailing ships with the exact menus and music from the books. I read the whole series. Enjoyed the "Hornblower" series much more.

The real underground "Cult" following is for "Brotherhood of War," by W.E.B. Griffin. That series is now up to about ten books. I have read every one of them at least four times. I usually go back and do so about every three years. Both my sons have done the same. I have never done this with any other Author. The interesting thing is that women also enjoy the series, which is unusual for a Military book.

Griffin has done the same with a series on the OSS, our military in Argentina during WWII, and he is at the "frozen Chosin" in his next book coming out in January in his Marine series. It started with the China Marines in 1941. They can't keep his books in stock in the PX's. We all hope he outlives us and keeps churning them out.

This would be a wonderful TV series. They could run it sixty or seventy shows.
