What would *I* do?

I'd have people finding out about my house through the MLS and visiting with their agents, who presumably know the prospective buyers' names and addresses, place of employment, whether they've arranged financing, and what type of house they're actually looking for so they don't track their dirt in my house and their kids don't swing on my staircase railings unnecessarily.

Believe it or not, I have no intention of being a FSBO when I sell my home.

However, I would anticipate a few random knocks on my door from strangers, even when a real estate company puts a sign in my yard saying "by appointment only".

I'd request that the knocker make an appointment with an agent for a more convenient time to see the property, and I'd give him a couple of agents' business cards, including the card of the agent who put the sign in my yard, so he can choose one to call.

Had to warn clients all the time not to let strangers come in just because they saw a yard sign. Too risky. And you wouldn't believe how persistent some of the strangers can be.
