OSAKA — Leading software industry associations from Japan, China and South Korea said Friday they have agreed to develop and popularize a new common operating system for computers and computerized equipment.

The proposed operating system will be called the "open source software," the 580-company Japan Information Technology Services Industry Association, the China Software Information Association and the Federation of Korean Information Industries said in a joint press release. (Kyodo News)
