Steve and All,

Re: They gave the poll results for Bush tonight on CBS, 41% would vote for him

Those who peruse these sorts of tea leaves believe that once the President is below 50% re-elect numbers, he's in deep doodoo.

41% has the alarm bells going off in Karl Rove's head. Bring on the headache medicines. 41% re-elect means a landslide in opposition to the incumbent.

Bush is crumbling faster than a block of blue cheese.

Polls? Oh goody! Here are a couple interesting poll results (all November):

Ratings based on the instructions "rate your feelings toward each one as either ..."
very/somewhat very/somewhat don't
positive neutral negative know
Bush 53% 11% 37%
Dean 18% 21% 21% 39%
Clark 19% 21% 19% 40%
Schwarzeneger 37% 32% 24% 7%
Rumsfeld 43% 15% 30% 12%

Kind of funny, isn't it, that Rummy and Arnold score
markedly better than the leading Dems in public perception?

As far as how Americans would vote if the election were
held today, Clark comes closest in a race against Bush, 37%
to Bush's 49%. Bush gained 4 points since September, too, while Clark lost a point.
Dean loses 50% to 35% (and is losing ground also) while Gephart gets 36% to
Bush's 52% (a slight gain for Gep).

Finally, and on the war, here's what Americans say. Asked whether the US "should
have taken military action to remove Saddam Hussein from power in Iraq", by a
63% to 34% margin, they still say "yes" in November.

Just thought you'd want to know. ;-)
