The recession started in March 2001 and ended in November 2001. After two years of recovery, there has been no recovery in employment at all. In fact, there has been no increase in the total number of hours worked. We have permanently lost many manufacturing jobs and are replacing them with lower paid service jobs. No wonder the market is not impressed.
