All I ask is that the Lincoln cult be consistent. If they want to justify his war based on a natural rights argument, which Jaffa's boys at Claremont do, then they have to condemn the likes of Washington and Jefferson. Natural rights don't change with time.

They could also try giving an accurate reading of the causes of the war. Lincoln also makes mention of the war resulting from a 30 year controversy in his first inaugural. 30 years before his time, Andrew Jackson prepared to send troops to South Carolina to enforce the "tariff of abominations." South Carolina claimed the right of Nullification and refused to collect the tariff. The issue became moot when Congress reduced the tariff. Both sides claimed victory. The issue of states rights versus national supremacy simmered on.
