Dean is not Mondale, he's more a combination of Tsongas-Nader-Dukakis. The Nader element comes mostly from his base supporters who are anti-establishment and ready to commit suicide and help Bush rather than vote smart. Dean simply cannot beat Bush. The Dukakis-Tsongas comparisons are obvious. Dukakis was the last little "no-nonsense" New England governor we threw against a Bush. It wasn't even close despite Dukakis leading Bush Sr. in the polls for awhile. Dukakis picked a southern rnning mate and it didn't help him at all. The military vote and image made all the difference. Even more so in 2004.
