Maybe you see racism exhibited by fellow liberals, and just assume that Republicans must be worse. Maybe that would explain why liberal metro areas tend to experience more segregation than conservative metro areas. Maybe that would explain why the metro areas that have the greatest disparity of income between black vs. white households tend to be strongly Democratic.
