yes, one important ingredient <are generally viewed with regret by Canadians>

This compared to one acquintance also visiting this board, who claimed "there are actually
no natives in Canada" although not using those exact words.

Anyway, thanks to the Canadian natives for setting up a refuge for two of those northern (norwegian)
combined natives-terrorists who (almost) blew up one energy-plantation in (their) northern Norway.

Luckily they got (royal) amnesty some years ago and could return to Norway.

Norway too regrets the incident, although the property rights are still a matter of process.

Ilmarinen

PS Another reason why that "nordic dimension" keeps going forward, northern russia, scandivia,
scotland, some of wales and much of Ireland, skipping London, and then Canada.

But there is always those funny individuals living in those 17-1800s (however, one of them
provided me with the link to this SI-thread)

PPS. In terms of energy production, other related issues on the "trully true property rights",
how does that work in Canada these days?? (I'm not thinking, directly, although indirectly,
on how Canada "caused" that black-out of NY)

the next step (post-regret) is obviously "what is done"??

>>such as the extermination of the native inhabitants<<

There is much written on the fate of the Beothic, none of which uses the word " extermination ", or even implies such an act had ever taken place.I've read quite a bit myself on the subject, and can only conclude in saying their was no agenda to exterminate the Beothic, except likely from other members of the Algonquin, the Micmaqs, who had rifles and were competing for resources.

There were conflicts and misunderstandings, common disease ( consumption - TB ), as well as your standard subjugation of the weak by arms, and the likelihood of the occasional murder( outlawed ), but there is no historical evidence that suggests or implies anything other than what happened through out North America regarding settlement in areas where natives inhabited.

In fact, there is enough evidence to suggest many of the original settlers tried for decade after decade to help them, but they were so afraid of the guns that they could never be found.Remember, there were only 500 to 1000 to begin with ( no one knows ), on an island over half the size Of Great Britian,so they certainly could hide if they wanted to.

Interestingly enough, the Micmaq there have NEVER taken any responsibility for their part in the demise of the Beothic, nor was it widely held in historical account till recently with more information gathering from the Beothic Historical Institute and Memorial University.

Anyway, not to downplay the tragedy that occurred hundreds of years ago well beyond our present day control,it is important for those who are interested in our History, and those who are new to this country, to study as much material as possible to get a better understanding of the events and circumstances that molded the country we see today.

KC
