Wily <<I liked it up until you said "You just need to add CPU + RAM + HDD..." <g>. $385 seems kinda rich for that starter kit, but maybe I'm missing something.>>

No your right its a little pricey but the quality and design are worthwhile trade offs.

<<Is your HDD going to be Serial ATA?>>
Yes it is.

<<As long as you're replacing the DVD-ROM, why not get a DVD-RW rather than CDRW?>>
I will be transferring/copying/sending a lot of data that are best suited to CD.
Eventually this activity will diminish and I anticipate migrating to the DVD R/W

<<There's no integrated ethernet?>>
Yes, on the motherboard (Realtek) also firewire

<<Is it a quiet unit?>>
Quieter than my previous workstations. Has a SmartFan that turns on depending on the temp of the CPU. Quietness is a priority for me and it makes more noise than I had anticipated but that is the challenge of the leading edge chips these days.

The comparable system from Dell has 5 fans.

I also considered a Hush Technologies (fanless).

<<How fast does it boot?>>
20 secs to the logon screen
