So you're not trying to change over the IRA into an RRSP? Did you bother setting up a trust to hold non canadian assets to exempt yourself from CDN tax for the 5 year period? Did you apply for permanent resident status? (In looking at the application process, I can't find the box 'riff raff'. <g>) Were you able to buy land with just a US passport? Or did you get a visa too? I was thinking of leaving my US stuff pretty much as is, and renting a flat. Then filing US returns on US income. I didn't expect to have enough CDN income to worry too much about CDN taxes. I thought I might spend a year or two, then move on to Thailand. Babysteps. What say you? A pipedream, this is? TIA
