A number of studies show that women make less money than men who work the same job. Show me a link with such a comprehensive study. TIA. We must ask why society values accountants more than social workers, for example. We must revalue jobs performed by women (and entice more men into them) as well as move women into male-dominated jobs. The pay rates for jobs are determined by supply and demand , not by how much society values people working a particular job. That's not true. Ballplayers get paid huge salaries because people war willing to pay to watch them play. It has nada to do with supply and demand. Same goes for actors. There are a ton of good actors who want to act. If you took a poll you would probably find overwhelming support for the idea that teachers are more important then lawyers, but lawyers make more money. Supply of teachers is going down. In fact, the number of male teachers is at the lowest level in years but teaching salaries don't go up. The poll would also show that doctors are considered more important to society then all-star level Major League shortstops. Why? Because there is a larger supply of people with the skills to be a doctor, even the skills to be a very good doctor. Also because their is a lot of demand for people with those skills because they can help a base ball team earn tens of millions of dollars. Few doctors can bring in so much money. But would you even get 1% of people in the country who would say its better to do without doctors then to do without top shortstops, or even to do without Baseball? I think your conclusions are not based on sound facts. Supply and demand is just one of several factors that determine the level of salaries. One example....... the level of one's salary can be determined by a person's appearance. The Fair Pay Act would prohibit wage discrimination based on sex, race and national origin by requiring employers to provide equal pay for work of equal value, whether or not the jobs are the same. Having wages controlled by beaurocrats who determine what value work has would be an unmitigated disaster.<?I> A disaster? How? And just for the record, you are a bureaucrat.
