well I do not really think that Jesus literally went up into a heaven when he ascended "physically".

do you ?

That was a basic belief requirement of Christianity 101 , as i recall for centuries and even today ?...the temporary physical body is as much "God" as any other state condition or thing you can name . Such complexity and intricateness in all it's operations both in health and sickness , is of great inspiration to most physicians even now in modern times.

I think that the Hindu idea of the body as a Temple rings true , and Christians need to simplify their inordinate confusing obtuse mythological ideas about creation and eternity .
Look to your own body , and you will see a multitude of real-life energies of the organs at work there ...and not always in perfect harmony , but all adding up to being very definitely directly part of God and no such "other". The Chinese also had very disctintlyt pragmatical and real ideas about the body too.

This is where all the difficulty arises .
And Jesus said to drink from his lips and you shall be as he ? To eat the flesh of his Body ? To drink the wine that is his blood?

There can be an eternity in a moment , for instance...though try as you might and even with Jesus and 1000 bibles by your side you will not even begin to slightly grasp "Eternity" , let alone infiniteness.

At the speed of light , Jesus if he ascended to heaven physically , would not even be close to leaving the galaxy yet . Part of God's plan , if you must see it , was to keep us fixed on earth for some time . Through love , devotion , beauty , truth and our own imaginations we invent religions and dreams of immortality.

Every part of your body and every muscle has the volition to act. Use it well , treat it well ...know it well respect it and live peacfully with it.

And you will know God. The dificulty arises in thinking it is all so perfect when it is not . Within the body in any given moment , there are organs at literal war with each other . All religions and their depictions of the attributes of "God" , arise out of the pesonification of all that you see stemming from out of your own body..it's organs , energies and their interactions.

The rest is fantasy and make believe heavens & hells.

Morning Sid....

I think the "Temple is the Body" idea is from the much earlier Hindu ....but upon running a search on this great site
found in Corinthians 6:19 and John 2:21 a similar thought
biblegateway.com

Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own;
(Whole Chapter: 1 Corinthians 6 In context: 1 Corinthians 6:18-20)

that post of yours regarding eternal spirits in temporary physical bodies has the greatest implications and very Hindu in it's origin...I would like to think of it as the highest elation/jubilation of the elan of being alive ...when we just breath life of our selves by ourselves . Life , which is the first of all the greatest of miracles for all of us . Even little lambs abound in their first few days of life .

If there were no heaven , i would be just as content to have at least experienced this life if only once . It would be nice to have seen more incindences of Jesus just being elated too , and allowing himself some moments of jubilation while he lived . So much of his ministry was frought with fire & brimstone and immediate fatality and seeming endless frustration , and depression. His was a tough act though for sure in those areas and with the roman rule.

One has to consider the corruption of the times of course , and the ignorance and disease plus very short lifespans , and a great lacking of the natural inspiration from the arts and liesure so forbidden in that strict patriarchal society of his upbringing. Man must always be free to reflect upon his own life without fear of reprisal....in effect to be at "play". It was a very somber and serious place , this "holy land " then , and the smallest deviances from the "Law" and religion would have you thrown off a cliff or stoned. Hatred , fear and suspicion did abound.

I wouldn't have wanted to live there even today. I'll take Yosemite , Hawaii , the Southwest or the Rockies anyday.
Jesus would have loved Yosemite .
