Stupidity was worse though on 12/7. We knew it was coming and were asleep. Mike

<Nobody saw it coming. Nobody.>

Lindy, a few years ago, I was sitting in a passenger seat, just behind the cockpit of a heavy jet, I forget which airline, but I think it was in the USA, but maybe not. It amazed me that the cockpit door was open and I could just stand up, take two or three steps and have control of a huge flying thing full of people and fuel and of huge value.

Unlike gaining control of a ship, an aircraft is rapidly in trouble if malevolent will takes control.

I didn't say anything because aircrew are notoriously stupid and would consider me to be making a threat rather than a warning that the situation was dangerous. Neither did I write to anyone, because on the many times I've done that, on many issues, I'm ignored and sometimes insulted, with a pat on the head and "We know best, now run along sonny" attitude. Writing here is at least fun and sometimes people reply.

I can't think of a single instance when the authorities have taken notice of me. But they would have saved a fortune. $10bn market capitalisation in the case of Globalstar.

It's funny to see those in charge saying nobody knew, it was unpredictable, who'd have thunk it, etc...

My current hobby horse is the Reconstituted United Nations. Of course, the know-it-alls tell me that the UN is useless. Well, as Raygun used to say, "There they go again".

Armageddon will make a much bigger bang than a couple of planes crashing into a couple of buildings. So get ready for it. As they say on fireworks, "Light fuse, stand well clear". The fuses have been lit. I'm standing well clear.

Meanwhile, people are dying by the dozen in explosions in Iraq. Afghanistan is a mess. Jews and Jihad are at each other's throats. North Korea is considering adopting the USA policy of forward defence and pre-emptive strike. Hu Jintao mistakenly thinks he owns Taiwan.

There's plenty of room for a New United Nations.

One definition of insanity is to keep repeating old ideas and behaviour, expecting to get a different result. We seem to be locked into a post WWII political quagmire with a 19th century red in tooth and claw solution.

I can tell you where that leads. It's two steps to the cockpit and Armageddon.

Our arrogance before 911 was even worse than before 12/7. Nobody saw it coming.

The specific event wasn't seen coming, yes, but the theoretical possibility was well known - keyword "Bojinka", #reply-17484912 etc.
