House Majority Leader Trent Lott. A racist by his own word and action. He's at the top of the party chain. The senior Senator from SC, Jessie Helms. are you going to tell me that he's for integration now? I'm not stereotyping. I'm speaking from my own personal experience. From the experience of listening to the leadership in your party. The experience of meeting thousands of conservatives and getting the chance to see who they really are. Now moenmac, I think you might be a compassionate conservative. One that does not harbor racist feelings. I applaud you for your convictions. But all you have to do is read the posts here by your conservative pals to see the hate dripping off their posts, as one example of the problem. As a white male myself, I've been privy to the dark secrets of these conservatives, because they thought I was one of them. I've heard the hatred and the racism from conservatives all my life. You want me to deny my wide experience of decades and decades? I can't do that. I can hope for the future that your party will be less racist over time. And certainly the political landscape has shifted over the years. As for affirmative action, I think that our country has benefited from affirmative action. It opened doors for those who could not have a chance before. I believe in the good that has come from affirmative action, and I still believe that we need to do more. I can hear the rally cry already that AA is reverse discrimination. But when the playing field is already so slanted, I don't see how anyone can call affirmative action discrimination. But I'm in favor of providing higher education to all who pursue it as well. This of course is looked at by your party as a handout. I see it as an investment in our country. We need the most educated population that we can have, that means we need to lift everyone up. Not every American can get into Yale with a "C" average. You need leverage to do that, MONEY. Lots of folks aren't born with that kind of leverage. Our country will be poorer if we do not utilize the full potential of every person. That's why education should be a high priority, for whites, blacks, latinos and every race. But you are not going to see any higher education initiative from this administration. They are consumed with colonizing Iraq. And they do this by deficit spending. And they call themselves conservatives. They have not conserved a damn thing. They have spent the country into a hole that will take generations to dig out of. Orca
