China sees 8% growth in 2004

Beijing - China anticipates an economic growth of 8 percent next year, the country's director of the national statistics office, Qiu Xiaohua, has reported.

China News Service quoted Qiu as saying that he did not believe the economy is overrated.

After 8.5 percent growth this year, the director of statistics said that in 2004 China could see more than 8 percent in growth "if everything runs smoothly".

Economic analysts of the investment house Goldman Sachs forecast 8.4 percent growth in China for 2004. - Sapa-dpa
