The biggest problem with media, particularly here in the US, is that it's driven by advertising revenue and desire to always increase circulation

True, but determinism of freedom (sort of -g) dictates that this is how it must be. Otherwise, who is going to pay for the media? A special "Media tax"? Moreover, can you make it verbotten for mainstream media to accept payments for promotion? If you will, you'll basically push advertisers towards sponsoring a "parallell" media, where ads would be allowed - and history would repeat itself...

Like with everything in a free society, there is a price to pay - and one is guaranteed to get some bad along with the good. Beats getting government controlled one party BS.

In this scene, a group of rabbis and other Jews in a Romanian ghetto gather to torture and kill the father of Theodor Herzl's mistress, the owner of a brothel. The man was found guilty of marrying a non-Jewish woman.

(Al-Manar TV, Lebanon, November 1, 2003)

Man: "Water, water."

Head Rabbi: "You hold his nose shut. You, open his mouth with tongs. You, pour lead into his mouth. You, cut off his ears. You, stab his body with a knife before the lead kills him. This is a sacred Talmudic court; if any of you fails in his mission I will try you just like this criminal."

(The men proceed to carry out their duties, pouring lead down the man's throat, cutting off his ears, and stabbing him.)

Man: "Water, water."

Cool, huh? This was a scene from the new Syrian TV series - it seems that they must be in competition with the Egyptian "Elders of Zion" masterpiece. Just imagine the outcry if anyone would dare make - nay, dare propose - a movie based on the "Satanic Verses".
