Mark,

Re: Ideas like my teeth are too yellow. Perhaps an idea I can reject without much effort.

Until overwrought dentistry promoters and chemical/drug purveyors like Proctor & Gamble made an issue of it, the "yellow teeth meme" didn't exist for 99.8% of us.

You've come up with a perfect example of the crassness of commercial enterprise determining matters of cultural norms. And the PR people are delighted that made you feel guilty about your lack of perfection. They got you, sucker. Now you, or people slightly more motivated than you, make a conscious decision in the supermarket to seek out the "tooth whitening" toothpaste formula at a handsome premium to equally effective conventional dentifrices. Or you buy the bleach cups to soak you pearlies. Or you go to the dentist at horrendous cost to whiten that smile.

Making you a sucker for a snake oil pitch, one which we can only avoid at the cost of anxiety about how we interact with bosses, lovers, customers, etc. etc.
