Schwarzenegger dug the budget hole a little deeper Monday by issuing an executive order rolling back the tripling of the vehicle license fee that his predecessor, Democratic former Gov. Gray Davis, triggered in June to ease what was then a $38.2 billion deficit.

Schwarzenegger said he expected lawmakers to find a way to make up for the $4.2 billion a year in revenue that the car tax increase was expected to generate for local governments, but didn't say how they should do it.

Arnie was overheard talking with a circle of his adoring fans after announcing the car tax rollback.

"I came to the Capitol of California to make a difference. I came to put our fiscal house is in order. With your help I have already accomplished more than the partisans and the politicians thought I could. Repealing the 300 percent increase in the car tax is only a beginning because I believe 100% that we can succeed."

With that strong beginning, the projected deficit should be a thing of the past!
