What are the features on this machine that made you want to pay the premium? Are you running WinXP?

Design, Size, Flexibility,Desire to not want to buy a Dell even though it costs less. I know these are mostly intangible and perhaps economically irrational yet it is also a personal quest for doing something different.

You're probably swapping in an RW drive you already have? Otherwise, wouldn't a DVD-RW be OK for CD writing?

Yes the CD vs DVD is another quirky choice based on work that I do and how I want to organize the data. I like the 52x speed and the cheap disks. I work with satellite images that are more suited to individual archiving on a single CD.

For most people the DVD R/W makes more sense
