I wouldn't know about those. All I know is that top restaurants in the area vie for the limited number of Westcott Bay oysters.

But I don't eat them, so doesn't matter to me.

But it's interesting that in this site
greenolivemedia.com
Westcott Bay oysters are the most expensive of the entire list. And it's not transportation costs, since some other Washington oysters and British Columbia oysters are cheaper than some East Coast oysters, and oysters from Chile are cheaper than Westcott Bay.

Interesting that this restaurant, which has such an extensive list and many reviews as one of the best, or the best, seafood restaurants in New York, on a skimming through only sells one Maryland oyster, from Tangier Sound, and that's one of their cheapest oysters. And your Chincoteague Oysters are one of the cheapest on the menu -- same price as those from Olympia, Washington.

Price isn't always, of course, a measure of quality, but given this extensive a list, that's the way to bet. And if Chincoteague were that much better than Westcott Bay, you would think not enough people would pay the premium to make it worth importing them from Washington.

But heck. Next time you're in New York visit the restaurant and check them out for yourself. Order several each from the Bay, from Chincoteague, and from Westcott Bay, and do your own taste test.

BTW, if you want to get an idea of where I live, this is right around the corner from us. About two minutes by boat. About seven by car, since you have to go around the head of the bay.
