WW2 has little to do with Vietnam.

And why is that?

Nazi Germany never attacked the US mainland and neither did Vietnam.

Nazi Germany was invading and brutalizing its neighboring countries, and so was N. Vietnam.

Innocent people were being killed by the Nazis and the N. Vietnamese were doing the same thing.

The US was supporting allies who would have fallen to these respective opponents without such assistance (and in the case of Vietnam, this proved to be the case after the US left).

There's a damn good reason we have so many American servicemen buried in foreign cemeteries Bilow. It's because we've had a long-standing policy of preferring to defend our allies against totalitarianism instead of waiting for it to directly threaten us.

And it's the very same reason we're fighting in Iraq right now.. To attempt to nip the onslaught of Islamo-Fascism in the bud before it becomes a force that cannot be reckoned with minus a major national mobilization and declaration of war.

In WW2, the Germans declared war against us and sunk our civilian ships.

Civilian ships? You mean the ones carrying "lend-lease" war goods to Germany's enemies? Hmmm....

The point is that even if Germany didn't declare war upon us, it would have been right for the US to have become involved and waged war against Hitler..

I don't have to wait until they issue the Reader's Digest condensed version before bothering to read the "writing on the wall".

And the writing on the wall this time is that Islamo-Fascism is a growing threat which is NOW shown itself quite capable of not only attacking the US, but also undermining the regional muslim governments. Permit them to fall and become surrogates of Al-Qaeda and we'll see even more blood flow.. both American and Muslim..

Call me crazy, but I prefer my ounce of prevention over your pound of cure.
