Some "snipperts" from a report on VOIP.

I found this report (cost is $400) and I did not get the report. It did list the highlights nonetheless. Its focus appears to be on equipment vendors. As this gets strung out, the application vendors will be sure to follow and that is where I feel ASPT will have some opportunities. Can they execute???

Cheers

Wednesday November 19, 12:00 pm ET

NEW YORK, Nov. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Need to know what the latest word on voice over WLAN is? Well, listen up: Unstrung (www.unstrung.com) today released a report addressing the hottest new sector in enterprise-class 802.11 - "Voice over Wireless LAN: A Heavenly Union?"
The report, published by Unstrung Insider
(www.unstrung.com/insider), Unstrung's wireless research service, identifies the vendors driving development of VOWLAN technology, which enables businesses to cut costs and increase efficiency by converging voice and data onto a single wireless IP network.

"For IT managers looking to install 802.11 wireless networks, it's vital that the equipment they select is capable of high-quality voice," says Unstrung Insider research analyst Gabriel Brown. "After all, if you can't support voice, how good is your network?"

Among the Insider's highlights:
* Symbol Technologies stands out for its market leadership and coherent technical and commercial strategy
* Major vendors - Cisco, Nortel, Avaya, etc. - will use voice over wireless LAN as a "completer" to their already extensive enterprise portfolios
* Startups with a hard-headed focus on tried and tested vertical markets can thrive
* 802.11e work on standardized quality of service (QOS) will catalyze the market, but shortcomings remain and may open the door for advanced proprietary QOS solutions
* Fast roaming and security are in limbo: good enough for some, unsatisfactory for others<<
