open the market to canadian pharmacies and a list of qualified pharmacies for medicare, pay for generics only a 90% or something (canadian prices) and if somebody wants a brandname pay it at 60%. I was just posting on the Bush thread that we have IP theft issues all over the place with developing nations, drugs/patents are one, the film industry, software, you name it. Protectionism doesn't work, we have to take our lumps here. The pharmas have a problem they may need to solve outside of the medicare system. Beyond this, I believe we have reached a crisis in healthcare to the degree that we have to think about a single payer system again. This is some of the reason the states are broke, the big companies aren't paying for healthcare anymore and try to get it on individual terms- impossible.
