The 50% approval number is actually HIGH in reality because when they poll -

Polls always look at likely voters too- they never get the "mad as hell" vote which in this case is a groundswell against Bush. Like in California they were predicting an even election and it turned out an Arnold landslide, all these non-voters showed up to cast their anger against Davis. That will happen in 04 to Bush imho, and I think the republicans know it. The congress.org website is one angry article after another. Then there are these issues like the PBA ban which really was an incredibly bad move politically for Bush, there was nothing to be gained from that for him, because it pushed the swing voters away even further and he is in a position where he needs all the middle ground voters he can muster. He is so far to the right of the northeast and west USA and it seems like he doesn't "get it". Bush has very poor advisors imho, I think they were chosen for ideology.
