" Most of your comments on the theory of guerilla war have little connection to the historical facts. For example: Re: "[In] Iraq short of urban battle, the opportunities for a guerrilla like campaign are negligible. " Official US military guerilla doctrine holds that cities are just peachy as bases for guerilla warfare. For those who failed to read and understand the history of urban guerilla warfare, and who failed to read and understand the official US military field manuals on this subject, Iraq provides an object lesson in this fact. If you want to learn more about the subject of guerilla warfare, I could do no better than to recommend the US Army's own doctrine:FM 90-8 Counterguerilla Operations globalsecurity.org Re: "I think you completely overlooked the Peshmergas. ... In case of Afghanistan once Mazar-e- Sheriff had fallen National Alliance was the key factor that helped overcome lack of US infantry on the ground. " Here it is six months later, and not only is there no Peshmerga forces outside of traditional Kurdistan, but there is not even any talk of such a roll, and the US regularly takes casualties even in Mosul. Re: "If the southerners or Iraqis who are hard marshland people (not urbanites Baghdadis who are far more refined ) owned guns than Brits would not have deserted helmets to Berets. " CNN, June 25, 2003British troops abandon their berets and return to their helmets after six of their colleagues were shot dead. cnn.com Re: "If this scenario of your would be true I should have seen a lot more weapons from Iran and huge number of Iranian volunteers already in the south of Iraq. That is not the case and definitely if that was a case the war would have taken entirely different shape. "DEFENSE SECRETARY RUMSFELD WARNS SYRIA, IRAN March 28, 2003During a Pentagon briefing Friday, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld issued a warning to Syria, who he accused of selling military equipment to Iraq, and to Iran, who he said is backing anti-Saddam Hussein Shiite fighters who have entered the war zone . ... pbs.org Re: "A regional conflict where Iran gets involved will take the whole global economy into tailspin, you know why? " I can't find my original statement, but I doubt that I ever said that Iran would enter a war against the US. Instead, I probably stated that Iran would support anti US guerilla forces in Iraq. This has already happened, but won't be important until the Shiites start fighting more. In a way, Iran's cynical actions are a turn about on the cynical motivations that made the US support Saddam against Iran. -- Carl
