You bitched about it so loudly, they listened. Now they're doing what you wanted them to.

So, instead of calling them responsive, you call them johnnie-come-latelys. Congratulations, you have passed the true partisan test!

Lizzie,

Re: Too late. I'm just saying that the white house has gotten *very* agressive on this trade issue in the last 2 mos and you couldn't get anybody to acknowledge any kind of issue a year ago.

Not too late to have a public relations blitz just before the election that things are "turning around", "improving", or that "jobs are returning to America".

I still think you aren't accepting how totally cynical all of Bush's maneuvering is. He'll pull out all the stops to fool the public before the election.

Here's an example from the 2002 election cycle. As you might recall, Bush cynically decided to announce that all Federal off-shore oil and gan exploration leases off the west coast of Florida would be ended. This was helpful in re-electing his brother Jeb, and maintaining Republican control of Florida. At the same time, and completely arbitrarily, Bush failed to offer the same deal to California. But guess what is going to happen in 2004? Bush is going to bow to the wishes of that Hummer-driving environmentalist from California, Governor Conan-the Republican, and eliminate Federal leasing offshore from the California coast. This makes Arnold look green, Bush look good and the election more uncertain. It will force the Democrats to spend some precious money on the California race in 2004, something they had the luxury to avoid in 2000.

It's all cynically calculated strictly for electoral advantage. Bush doesn't give a damn about your job, or any one else's in the ranks of middle management or below in the pecking order. He just wants to tweak perceptions, and get voters to make the mistake of voting against their own self interest, and for the Republican.
