IMF says Chinese yuan not "substantially undervalued"

WASHINGTON : The IMF said that China's currency does not appear "substantially undervalued" and that a currency change would probably have little impact on global trade imbalances.

The comments by the International Monetary Fund, in a report following annual consultations with China, flew in the face of criticism by some US lawmakers and economists who charge that China is manipulating its currency to gain an artificial advantage in trade.
