Liberals have a distrust of politics and a fear that they might be pressured into unseemly compromises.

Which is why why it won't work to copy Newt & Karl to closely.
The right-wing are comfortable to the point of being enthusiastic about the idea of buying gov't influence and pandering to billions in gov't-controlled economics, such as drugs, energy, DOD, etc. and hiding their tracks. It's often called "national security", which nicely fits both the crimes and the cover-ups. As does any talk of campaign finance reform, to which McConnel says, "Money is necessary in politics!", as if we're already fully converted to a corp-gov't fascism described in B. Gross's "Friendly Fascism".

Rather than justifying such transactions, most liberals are embarassed by it, and easily distracted by calls for investigations, even tho' their compatriots are in the trough too, and get caught. This reticence makes most Dems incompetent at the game, or if they are active like Gray Davis, they get caught for minor stuff trying to copy major criminals like the politicos connected with Enron and Iraqi profiteering who get away scott-free.

Dems are jellyfish, while the GOP leadership are primarily criminals with legal cover.

The best way to "grow" a loyal opposition to gov't corruption is with full disclosure on every public dollar and program in real time on the web. That would generate more political action than anything.
