If you had been paying the max into it the last years before you retired, out of your own pocket at double the employee rate, it might change your attitude.

Nope.. if I don't need it to live on because I'm wealthy, have more than enough in savings to carry me through retirement, PLUS leave a fortune to my kids, then I don't need to be collecting SS.

That's the problem with SS.. It used to be a social insurance program that somehow got turned into an entitlement.

Of course it's doable. Like every other middle class trap sprung in the past 70 years. You tell them we're going to screw the millionaires and not touch the little people, then you slowly work it back to the middle class. Works every time.

"Means testing" is Politically impossible right now.
