Hitchens postulates many of the protesters from last year's million-person protest were supporting terrorists?? It certainly is feasible that "terrorist" organizations will be represented at the protest rallies in GB. Some of the consequences of ignoring that possibility would be foolish and naive. You have no idea how many terrorist existed before the war in Iraq as opposed to the number of terrorists that exist today. And I'm sure that decreasing the number of terrorist is exactly what Mr. Bush had in mind when he took the fight to them. Don't forget that it is they that declared war on us. I have no difficulty what so ever accepting your 3rd possibility which is the most rational possibility of all. Being anti-war is understandable......millions of people are anti war and proudly voice their opposition. A perfectly respectable position to take. I'm sure there are those in this world that believe in your second scenario. And I've heard all of that here on SI. IMO, they are paranoid beyond reality and best ignored. 2) Let's say Bush decides to continue the "War on Terror" hoping the number of terrorists and sympathizers doesn't increase. This means militarizing much of the industrialized world to get a large enough force to track down and imprison the numbers involved. The only way to deal with such large numbers is create a Gulag. Maybe that's what Ashcroft has been doing there, studying techniques for mass internment. M
