You can spend up to 6 months in Canada without doing squat... there are many 'summer residences' here. If you travel back and forth you're probably fine. After that you need to start getting official. So yes you can 'occupy' you land for 6 months. There are variety of ways to qualify for 'permanent residence' status.... you'll have to look into it.

You're supposed to get an auto licence within 90 days in B.C.

Summer residences can bring household stuff in duty free for a period of time after purchasing a place... we didn't.

I repeat... I hear that the 'escape artist' thinggy is toast. I'm not big on that crap anyway... I pay my fair share.
