You should also read johnkerry.com about the man, not just right-wing smear campaoign propaganda. Kerry was a major hero, both during the war and in trying to bring it to a close and save thousands of lives. Kerry was no peace-nik. He didn't avoid the war like Bush, CLinton, cheney and so many others. He fought honorably, killed and took three Purple Hearts home along with the Silver Star and Bronze Star. Even though right-wing smear campaigners attack him, Kerry's men (from all walks of life) strongly support him to this day and even give him credit for bringing them home alive. The Vietnam War was just plain wrong. The right-wing would like to re-write history, but they're just plain liars. Did you know for instance that the entire US build-up was based on a suipposed Vietcong attack LJB claimed was true but never really happened? What a collosal lie. And who gained, the same creeps that re gaining in Iraq today, Brown+Root (now Halliburton), Bectel and the arms dealers. That was all in the top-secret Pentagon Papers which Daniel Ellsburg risked his life to leak to the press. At the time, the Jophn Ashcroft of his day tried Ellsberg for treason, but the real traitors were the ones (like today) who lied about why we should go to war and covered up the truth. Since Iraq has tons of oil maybe it has some stragegic interest in a cynical way, but Vietnam had no strategic value to us at all. That whole argument was a myth and was proven wrong. So who's the hero? The man who rushes to war, sends millions to their deaths and lies about why we're there, or the man who stands up to save lives after seeing too many of his friends killed and no clear plan for why we're there or how we get out? No accident Bushies are desperately trying to find a way out of Iraq now. They know they've stumbled into another Vietnam. McCain and Hagel (the GOP's two combat heros) admit it now but the Bushies are still spinning and covering up. We the taxpayers get the bill and Halliburton and Bectel once again make off with billions.
