In theory Hillary was right. Everyone needs to be covered. Actually total cost of medical care might even go down but no one looks at the total costs that the uninsured bring to the table, some not easily quantifiable. And of course the danger is that the dems get to run it and it become a boondoggle. Personally i think hillary should run it--think she is tough enough to be a great HC czar and it would be a crowning achievement.
Last year at my old job, both my employer and wifes covered us. Think of the waste in that and i wound up actually netting a few dollars with all the claims for primary and then secondary. And then there are the young families out there who just cant afford it. Something way off. Thats why we got SS in the 30s. We are in the same place now. What we need is full coverage that involves the private sector but doesnt let insurance cos, pharma, hospitals an hmos full power or the govt turning it into a giant boondoggle. mike@alsoinNJ

Gina,
I think that i am becoming a kennedy democrat again. What was it? "idealist without illusions".
Tax breaks for the rich which is the class warfare way of putting Bush economic policy is not enough for either supply side or demand side. We need some fairness and right now with a 83 billion dollar war going on, I would be happy to pay a tax surcharge on taxes paid with a big exclusion for low income so the rates stay the same and we dont get to the step of being fiscally irresponsible. Better yet--lets use such a tax surcharge to pay the iraq bill. Our kids pay with their lives so why shouldnt we make the effort too. mike
