STOP THE WAR, END THE MADNESS

Global Exchange and the Occupation Watch Center
occupationwatch.org
are organizing a very important delegation to Baghdad from November 29-December 8, 2003 for family members of U.S. troops who are serving or died in Iraq. These families oppose the U.S. occupation and want to se their family members come home as soon as possible. We hope that their visit to Iraq will bring increased media attention to the plight of the troops and especially to alternatives that exist to the U.S. occupation.

Some of the delegates are mothers and fathers who are heart-broken knowing that every day, their children are in harm’s way. Some are angry wives of servicemen who have no idea why their husbands are still there and when they will be coming home. One young wife living in Ft. Bragg signs all her letters, “God Bless the Troops, Bring Them Home Now.” One father, who lost his son in Iraq, says the only way he can find meaning in his son’s death is to do whatever he can to stop others—Iraqis and US troops--from being killed.

We plan to take 10 people, and have included four of their profiles below. The group will go to Iraq to meet with and listen to Iraqis, the troops and US officials. On their return, they will release a report on their findings and recommendations, and travel to Washington DC for meetings with Congress, the administration, and the press. Finally, they will travel to New York to meet with UN officials and be present at the United Nations on December 15 when the US government is scheduled to propose its transition plan to the world community.
