so the prius price is $20K with 55 mpg (gas plus battery operation total mileage). i love clean air too, but i am trying to make a cost comparision. i have seen plenty of prius's around, and they are small. the toyota matrix is $15K and 36 mpg with all gasoline, and the toyota corolla is $14K and 40 mpg with all gasoline. the matrix and corolla are about the same size as prius. maybe i will have to go to a toyota dealer to ask some questions, but i would like to know without the prius batteries and motor(s) how much cheaper would the prius be and what gasoline mileage would it get. if the difference is $4K to $5k at 40 mpg, that would be a lot of tanks of gasoline over the life of the alternative car. that is the cost-type number i am trying to get at.
