Conservative radio commentator Rush Limbaugh is under investigation for laundering money he allegedly used to purchase black-market prescription painkillers, according to a source close to a Palm Beach County drug inquiry looking into the talk show host.

Subpoenas have been issued in an attempt to figure out whether Limbaugh illegally funneled money to feed his drug addiction, the source confirmed Wednesday.

Limbaugh denied the money-laundering allegations on his radio show Wednesday, his third day on the air since completing a five-week drug-rehabilitation program in Arizona. Limbaugh publicly acknowledged his drug addiction in October shortly after The National Enquirer reported that his former housekeeper and her husband had given authorities e-mails and taped phone recordings documenting how they supplied him with painkillers.

Limbaugh said the latest accusations were part of "the purposeful release of false information" by parties that he wouldn't name.

"There wasn't any money laundering going on, and I know where the story comes from, I know who's behind it and I know what the purpose of the story is and I'll be able to tell you at some point," Limbaugh said during his three-hour radio show.

The first public mention of any money-laundering allegations came Tuesday with ABC News reporting that Limbaugh withdrew cash 30 to 40 times from his account in amounts just under $10,000 to avoid the bank having to report the withdrawals to the federal government. A bank employee allegedly delivered the cash to Limbaugh, ABC News reported.
