People get married for all kinds of reasons, some sane, some not so sane, including hoping to cash in on a lot of wedding presents. As I said, I don't really care one way or the other. I just think that once the divorces start, and the state awards one same-sex-spouse alimony because the other same-sex-spouse makes more money, or makes one same-sex-spouse sell the house to split the equity, or splits the retirement plan with the other same-sex-spouse it won't seem so desireable anymore.

Women, in particular, hate to pay alimony and child support. I don't think a man would like paying alimony to another man, either.

And I promise you that if I handle divorces for same-sex-couples (and I would), I will argue that they are entitled to exactly that - alimony, half the equity in the marital residence, half the retirement plans, the whole nine yards.
