surprise, surprise, i agree with you totally in principle, but i am trying to get at the numbers. the dollar cost differential between the gas only, high mileage, small engine car versus the hybrid, high mileage, small engine car is the starting point for clarity. with reasonable numbers it makes a decision much less subjective. without some reasonable cost differential numbers we get handwaving. i appreciate the allergy and health issues, and i want the $$ numbers too. i plan to start with an ace mechanic i know who works on toyota's primarily.

The price we pay at the pump masks an awful lot of what we, as a nation, are really paying for our extravagant lifestyle. Basic cost at the pump................ $1.60/gal. (national ave.) Cost of Middle East DoD operations.... 1.50 (excluding Iraq supplemental) Cost of Iraq Operations............... 1.25 Cost of national debt attributable to. 1.00 Middle East military operations Miscellaneous Tax Subsidies, Depletion 0.50 Allowance, Rebates, etc. TOTAL: Cost of gasoline............... $5.85/gal.
