I know there are some that say Bush is a man of his principles vs. Clinton who lead by poll. But in this case Bush's blind policymaking is not an advantage, in fact it makes him look rather dumb. He is on tentative grounds with swing voters, particularly women who tend to be anti-war and here he goes with this agressive PBA ban with no provision on life of mother and makes it into a photo-op.

Was this smart?

I think they may have been able to get away with PBA legislation if they snuck it in or compromised just a wee bit but instead its another "bring it on" macho diatribe and I can't see Bush getting any female votes in the under 45 demographic. They are out of touch bigtime in the republican party, I'll bet these polls took them by surprise and there are lots of them, consistent all around. That site pollingreport compiles all recent polls, it is quite useful.
