I am against corporate welfare also. But if someone drives a Toyota Prius, everyone else also benefits

Mani, the Prius has been named Motor Trend's Car of the Year.

If we are going to subsidize hybrid cars it should be a subsidy for the purchase of any hybrid (or electric or ultra high mileage regular car), not a subsidy to promote the manufacture of one specific model. However I'm still against even that subsidy.

But if someone drives a Toyota Prius, everyone else also benefits. For example it results in cleaner air for everyone to breath

It still consumes gas and pollutes even if it does consume less then a regular car. Eventually the batteries will have to be junked and they are not good for the environment.

and less dependence on foreign oil, also less military spending to secure foreign oil thus less taxes for the tax payer.

If Prius and Honda hybrid sales went up 50 times we still wouldn't pay a penny less on the military. Middle East oil would still be an important resource and we would still be in Iraq.

Its not that I have anything against the Prius. I'm just against a subsidy for it. I think many other subsidies are worse but that would just make subsidies for the Prius, the lesser of two evils. I think federal government subsidies should probably total not a whole lot more then $0.
