Snowshoe, another time recently, when China was getting stroppy over Taiwan, a carrier fleet was sailed through, which China whined and moaned about. The USA informed them politely that the fleet was just conducting manoeuvres in international waters, but thanks for the interest in proceedings.

I don't think it would be wise for China to launch Long March Rockets towards USS Ronald Raygun if it's sight-seeing around Taiwan. I wonder if the Long March is guided by GPS. I suppose the USA could turn the system off for a few minutes at quite short notice if rockets seemed to be heading in an undesirable direction.

I suppose inertial navigation would be accurate enough if big H bombs were being used. But imagine what the USA reaction would be if China nuked USS Ronald Reagan [assuming a Long March payload could get to it]. I would NOT want to be on the receiving end of what happened next.
