FONAR Sells 59th Stand-Up MRI to New Jersey Imaging Center

MELVILLE, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--11/21/2003--FONAR Corporation (NASDAQ-FONR), The MRI Specialist(TM), announced today the sale of its 59th FONAR Stand-Up(TM) MRI to University Imaging Center, located in southern New Jersey. The Stand-Up(TM) MRI is an Upright(TM) imaging system by FONAR Corporation.

The spokesman for University Imaging Center said, "This order is the first of five Stand-Up(TM) MRI scanners we are planning for southern New Jersey. This newest technology, Position(TM) Imaging (pMRI(TM)), scans patients in the weight-bearing position and the position of pain or symptom. Prior to the Stand-Up(TM) MRI, patients' diseases would often go undiagnosed except sometimes through radiation emitting procedures such as myelogram. Our Stand-Up(TM) MRI centers will be marketed to referring physicians to provide a more complete picture of their patients than a closed recumbent MRI. We, on behalf of our patients, are grateful to FONAR for providing this revolutionary breakthrough technology."

Raymond Damadian, president and founder of FONAR, said, "We are delighted to have University Imaging Center as a customer for our Stand-Up MRI. We have a very unique and successful product. Over time, the reasons for this success have become apparent. Of most importance physicians are beginning to appreciate the fact that the Stand-Up(TM) MRI sees pathology that cannot be seen any other way. The Stand-Up(TM) MRI and its Upright(TM) imaging capability enables physicians to treat their patients more effectively because they can see the COMPLETE PICTURE."

"Another big reason," added Dr. Damadian, "is the Stand-Up(TM) MRI's enormous appeal to patients. Patients look for two things when they are told they need an MRI - an accurate result and a positive experience. The Stand-Up(TM) MRI delivers on both counts better than other scanners. When patients learn that the Stand-Up(TM) MRI allows them to sit and watch TV throughout their scans, as opposed to being confined in a claustrophobic tunnel, they are much more likely to make their preferences known to their attending doctors."

The Stand-Up(TM) MRI, FONAR's Upright(TM) imaging system, is the world's only whole-body MRI scanner with the ability to perform Position(TM) Imaging (pMRI(TM)), i.e. patients can be scanned standing, sitting, bending or lying down. With its unique ability to scan patients in weight-bearing postures, the FONAR Stand-Up(TM) MRI has identified pathology that had gone undetected on conventional, lie-down MRI scanners.

MRI Specialist, Stand-Up, Upright, Position Imaging and pMRI are trademarks of FONAR Corporation.
