unclewest,

>>We now have to hope that he gets a jury of combat experienced officers and not a bunch of staff pukes like the ones making this an issue.<<
How is a court-martial panel chosen? Does higher military or civilian authority have the purview to intervene at this point, or has this become a sacrosanct pustule on the Chief of Staff's butt? This thing makes me spit bile. "Pardon me Iraqi sir, but would you mind telling me what you know about the bandits who are about to kill my men, or would you prefer tea?"

This case is going to make it very difficult for our guys to operate in the field. Some may be tempted to avoid taking prisoners. In a firefight nobody questions the number of enemy fatalities. It seems now they do count the number of enemy you scare.

Sub Tzu wrote war is an art...and it is...but it ain't pretty art.

Appreciate your opinion. I felt the same, but then, WDIK? Is there anything that we as ordinary peon citizens out here in Red, but-surrounded-by-Blue-land, can do about this?

Anyone we can call, or write?

Our Military are putting their lives on the line, every single day and night they are in Iraq (or any other place we have directed them to go).

It would certainly seem to me that the rules of engagement would take into consideration that an enemy combatant "just might" be trying to kill our soldiers, and that our comanders " just might" be trying to avoid that possibility.
