"We should not be focusing on the fact that over 2.5 million people have lost their jobs, or the record budget deficit that is expected to grow in the following years. We also shouldn't talk about my tax cuts that mainly benefit those making more than $200,000 a year. Nor should we even notice that I am asking for another $87 billion for Iraq, or that unemployment is still growing," said Bush. (more...) "These are numbers that we just should not concentrate on. Rather, the American people should listen to the same excuses that I have been using for a long time. Sept. 11, although nearly 2 years removed still is holding the economy down, and no one can stop it; its no one's fault. We should realize that the rich, especially my campaign donors, need more money and maybe, if the middle and lower classes are lucky, a little bit of that money will trickle down to them." Bush then went on to stress that people are confident in the economy, despite recent poll data to the contrary. Bush's words are in stark contrast to Democratic hopefuls who seem to constantly use numbers and facts to prove their points. Many Bush supporters called the Democrat's use of numbers unpatriotic and an example of dirty campaigning.
