Kennedy was no hawk. But he was tough. His presence in Vietnam was limited to Green Berets and support personnel. It was not a real war at that time, just a third world special ops intervention. His attempt to oust Castro was half-hearted and not enough. If he had been a hawk he would have had the US military invade, not send a rag-tag force posing as freedom fighters.

I notice the GOP trying to rewrite history here again by trying to blame the Vietnam war on Kennedy. When Wolf Blitzer said this to Theodore Sorenson the other day (A close Kennedy coinfidante) Sorenson blasted back that Kennedy wanted to get OUT of Vietnam. If you believe Oliver Stone's thesis, that was the reason Kennedy was murdered, because he wanted out. However there are other theories for the reasons behind his assassination. Most of the reasons point to the extreme right-wing as the culprits. Certainly the evidence would point that way. And clearly Oswald did not act alone because watching the Zapruder film a few times this week you could clearly hear at last 3 shots and one of them came from the front, not from behind. Two directions, caught in a crossfire.
