The Vietnam spending was insane. Just as insane as cops shooting down kids at Kent State. The whole country had gone mad during that period. And the worst part was the whole esclation of the war was based on a big lie. Sound familiar?

We have the makings of Vietnam Jr. now. Bush said yesterday that we could have MORE troops there by next year rather than less. He keeps changing his tune on this.
And we still don't know who the hell is attacking us or how to fight back against them. Ugh!

Nope. Only about $200 billion worth of war spending can be attributed to adding to the deficit. The rest is because of tax cuts for the wealthy.

<All I am saying is that our current
defense spending (even including Iraq) is
paltry by historical standards.>

Our defense spending may be paltry historically, but we spend more than the next 20 countries COMBINED, yet (not counting terrorism) we are one of the least threatened countries on Earth from land bordering neighbors! Why do we need all the ICBM's, aircraft carriers, bombers, artillery tubes, tanks, etc. The answer is we DON'T.
These weapon systems are useless against terrorists.
